How to replace a gas dryer heating element. The thermal fuse will have a blue and red wire attached to it. Locate and remove the canister. Natural gas dryers use an electric heating element, known as the igniter, to produce enough heat to light the gas inside the combustion tube.

Using a screwdriver, remove the screws from the back cover of the dryer. To access it, unplug the dryer and pull the back panel off of the dryer if you already reassembled the dryer. If you have a voltmeter, test the element.

You'll see one screw holding the element in. Inside the back of the dryer, there should be several wires leading to. Measure the resistance across the leads of the fuse using a volt/ohm meter.

Once you replace the heating element inside the gas dryer, your drying time should shorten tremendously. Pull the wires off of the fuse. This will tell you what's broken.

Take out the screw, and carefully pull out the element, which is a coil that heats up, on some metal housing.
